Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned the United States in a speech on Sunday to "stay away from the Strait of Hormuz". The US announced on the night of Friday to Saturday that it will send more ground troops to Saudi Arabia to ensure security in the region.
In the same speech, Rouhani also said that Iran wants to present a plan for security and peace in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The so-called Coalition of Hope initiative would show how security in the Persian Gulf can be guaranteed without foreign powers.
The US said on Saturday that it is sending new ground forces to the region because of the attacks on Saudi oil fields. The Americans are convinced that Tehran is behind the attacks, but tensions between the two countries have been running high for months because of the disturbances in the Strait of Hormuz.

Ships attacked and seized
The narrow waterway near Iran is important for many oil tankers, but in recent months some ships were attacked and other cargo ships were seized. Iran and the US always pointed at each other with an accusing finger at each other.
After Rouhani announced that he wanted to present a "peace plan" on Wednesday, his Iranian navy commander sharpened the relationship. Hossein Khanzadi told Iranian state media that "opponents are being destroyed" are identified as the only form of aggression.
