Renate Künast has failed for the time being in an attempt to take legal action against verbal abuse on Facebook. According to a decision of the district court of Berlin, corresponding comments "no defamation of the person of the applicant and thus no insults" dar. Unknown the members of the Bundestag had called among other things as "piece of shit" and "mental patients" and sometimes even more drastic and sexist posts written.

Künast announced that she would act against the decision. "The decision of the district court sends a catastrophic signal, in particular to all women in the network, what kind of intercourse women should have there," she said.

The politician had wanted to achieve that Facebook may publish the personal data of 22 users. She wanted to take civil action against her, as her lawyer Severin Riemenschneider said. According to the court, these are permissible expressions of opinion.

Background is an interjection by Künast from the year 1986 in the Berlin House of Representatives in connection with the then pedophilia debate in the Greens. She was alleged to stand behind calls for impunity for sex with children. This had rejected her.
