The recently deceased Zimbabwean former president Robert Mugabe is not buried in a hero cemetery. This was announced on Thursday after a conflict between the government and the Mugabe family about the last resting place of the former dictator who died last week.
Current President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his party wanted to bury Mugabe in an honorary cemetery for the heroes of the Zimbabwean struggle for independence. However, the Mugabe family wants him buried in the family grave in his hometown.
According to Mugabe's relatives, a hero funeral goes against the wishes of the former president. They see this as a kind of final blow to President Mnangagwa, who, according to Mugabe, conspired with others to take away his presidency.
