Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) resigns because of a cancer illness from her office as provisional SPD boss. However, she would stay Prime Minister, informed Schwesig. She was confident to get well again.
"The good news is that this cancer is curable, but it requires medical treatment," said Schwesig. This will mean that she will not be able to hold public appointments on all days in the coming months. "I have therefore asked the Ministers to represent me on these days."
After intensive discussions with her attending physicians, she was very confident that she would recover completely. "That's why I decided to continue to serve as prime minister and also as party leader here in the country," said the 45-year-old.
