The Russian Medvedev prevailed against Bulgarians Grigor Dimitrov 7: 6 (7: 5), 6: 4, 6: 3 and play for the first time in one of the four Grand Slam tournaments in a final.

In the women's final meet on this Saturday (22.00 CEST / Eurosport) the 37-year-old top favorite Serena Williams from the United States and the 19-year-old whiz kid Bianca Andreescu from Canada to each other. Nadal is the last of the big three still in New York. Roger Federer had previously been in the quarter-finals, Novak Djokovic even eliminated in the second round. The opportunity to win his 19th Grand Slam title is great for the Mallorcan.
But against Berrettini Nadal had to fight hard at first and fight off in the tiebreak of the first set even two set balls. The Italian played up courageously and embarrassed Nadal. But the 33-year-old remained calm in the crucial stages and got the first set after 73 minutes.

Medvedev showed in the first Grand Slam semi-final of his career an impressively serene performance. Nervousness was not felt by the Russians. The 23-year-old substantiated once more why he had gone to New York as a secret favorite. Before the US Open, Medvedev had reached the finals in Washington and Montreal and even won the dress rehearsal in Cincinnati.
He did not notice that he had already played a lot of games in the past weeks. Instead, he was even a bit fitter than Dimitrow, who surprisingly eliminated Federer in five sets in the quarterfinals. After 61 minutes he got in the tiebreak the first set, after another hour the second section with 6: 4.
Although Dimitrov was at eye level most of the time, he made too many minor mistakes in the crucial stages. In the third set, Medvedev made a quick break, breaking Dimitrov's resistance. Medvedev used his third match ball after 2:38 hours. The last Russian in a Grand Final was Marat Safin 2005 at the Australian Open. He won the tournament back then - against Australian Lleyton Hewitt.
