Potsdam (AFP) Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) spoke out in favor of a national emissions trading scheme in the areas of transport and heat at the meeting of the Union's Executive Committee. Merkel had "clearly positioned" during the deliberations on Wednesday evening in Potsdam, affirmed participants of the news agency AFP on Thursday. In doing so, the Chancellor argued that, unlike a CO2 tax, emissions trading is a climate protection instrument with which the gradual reduction of CO2 can be sought and implemented.
