Eight school children died on Tuesday in a stab incident in China, reports AFP news agency. Two other children were injured. The police arrested a forty-year-old suspect. The man's motive is unclear.

The incident took place in the village of Chaoyangpo in the central province of Hubei. The local authorities say they make every effort to offer students psychological support.

China has been shaken several times in recent years by attacks with knives. Security had therefore been increased in many schools.

In April a man killed two students with a knife in the central province of Hanan.

In October last year, a woman injured fourteen children with a knife at a kindergarten in the southwestern province of Sichuan.

And in stabbing in April 2018, a man killed nine high school students on their way home.
