Ottensheim (dpa) - Jason Osborne and Jonathan Rommelmann have brought the German Rowing Association (DRV) at the World Cup in Austria, the first medal in the Olympic disciplines. The crew in the lightweight double scull finished third on Saturday in the final of the title fights.
After a thrilling race on a branch of the Danube near Ottensheim, the bronze duo from Mainz and Krefeld had to give up the boats from Ireland and Italy.
Despite all the joy over the first medal, there was another setback for the DRV on the second last World Cup day. With fourth place in the B final missed the four-wheeler without a helm the direct ticket to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. It was already the eighth boat out of the 14 Olympic competition classes, which will have to qualify for the second round on the Rotsee in Lucerne next May. Before Rio 2016, only five boats were affected.
