Hannover (dpa) - The hunt for the red jersey begins! On the first leg of the Germany Tour 2019, especially the sprinters have a good chance to secure the first overall tour of the tour.

The 167 kilometers from Hanover to Halberstadt are not too difficult, the only mountain classification is already around 80 kilometers from the finish. At the presentation in front of the New Town Hall in Hanover, France's tour hero Julian Alaphilippe, Emanuel Buchmann and Co. were already celebrating on Wednesday.

THE STAGE: "Every stage is designed like a classic," sports director Fabian Wegmann promises before the start of the Germany Tour. From Hannover to Halberstadt, the Tour-de-France-Fourth Buchmann and his colleagues are dealing with a rather simple classic stage. Although the climb to Sternplatz is 2.8 kilometers long and 6.4 percent steep on average, it has to be climbed well before the finish line in the Harz mountains.

THE FAVORITES: Your chance should smell here especially the men with the highest final speed. The Australian sprint turbo Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) should have as good chances as the German Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe), who drew attention during the Giro d'Italia. The Sprinter teams should therefore strive to merge the field in time for Halberstadt again.

THE GERMANS: In addition to Ackermann the profile should also be the 37-year-old veteran André Greipel. The "gorilla", as Greipel is called, has disappointed in the sprints at the Tour de France and is now aiming for a stage win. Not to be underestimated is Nils Politt, who came in second overall last year and with his courageous driving style and courageous attacks this time should risk.
