Madrid (AP) - The dramatic situation on the Spanish rescue vessel "Open Arms" has escalated after two and a half weeks on the high seas. Desperate migrants jumped into the sea today - apparently to try to reach the nearby Italian island of Lampedusa swimming. Spain had previously offered the "Open Arms" officially Algeciras in Andalusia as a safe haven. However, the trip would again mean several days on the high seas for the exhausted migrants. The Madrid government criticized Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini for his relentless attitude.
