On Sunday morning and in the afternoon, the police investigated a 'suspicious' package at the Sint Vitus church in Hilversum. However, there were no explosives in it, the police said
Photos from De Gooi- and Eemlander showed that it was a black suitcase on the grounds of the Sint Vitus church.
The area was closed off around 10:45 am and the planned church mass was canceled. Explosives scouts came to the scene and a police helicopter flew above the neighborhood. The nearby Hotel Gooiland may also have been evacuated, but a spokesperson could not confirm that.

The church is said to have surfaced recently in a threat from the Islamic State (IS), writes De Gooi- and Eemlander . At the beginning of August, an image was circulating on the Internet, showing the church with flames with the accompanying text: "We have come to slaughter you." The sender would be the IS group GreenB1rds. However, the police spokesman could not say anything about this.
Although the suspicious package turned out to be harmless around 13.45, the police are still investigating to find out where the suitcase comes from. For this, only a smaller area has to remain deposited.
