2018 - An Italian Coast Guard ship rescues 190 refugees off Malta from Malta, but is allowed to land in Catania, Sicily, only four days later.

2009 - At the World Athletics Championships in Berlin, Jamaican Usain Bolt improves his own world record in the final over 100 meters by eleven hundredths to 9.58 seconds.

2004 - The European-American spacecraft "Cassini-Huygens" has discovered two previously unknown moons of the planet Saturn. This is announced by the US space agency NASA.

1999 - Almost a quarter of a century after the end of the Vietnam War, the United States opens another diplomatic mission in Ho Chi Minh City, the former Saigon.
