Floods caused by monsoon rains have already killed 147 people in southern and western India, local authorities report Sunday.

The southern state of Kerala, a popular tourist resort known for its pristine beaches, hill resorts and inland waterways, is one of the hardest hit areas. The death toll is there at 67.

At least 165,000 people have been taken care of in more than thirteen hundred relief camps, spread over fourteen districts in the state, according to a senior police officer.

"Bad weather and damaged infrastructure are affecting rescue work," he added.

Myanmar is also struggling with the consequences of the monsoon. On Sunday, at least 52 people died as a result of floods and landslides.
