About 680 illegal residents of the US state of Mississippi were arrested on Wednesday evening after police raids. Federal authorities call it one of the largest arrest actions within the borders of one state.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested the migrants in seven different food processing plants in Mississippi.

CNN reports that the ICE used confidential counselors who were employed by a number of those factories.

For example, an employee would have received between $ 500 and $ 800 per undocumented employee that he had declared.

Children looked after in fitness center

Some children of the migrants no longer had a place to sleep after their parents were arrested. Those children were picked up from the street and taken to a local fitness center. There they were provided with food and drinks by volunteers.

According to local authorities, some of the migrants will be temporarily released for humanitarian reasons. What exactly is meant by this is unclear. It may mean that parents are released to visit their children.

Later they still have to appear in court.
