An exam room in the Maths and Physics building of the Free University was evacuated on Thursday afternoon due to smoke development in an exam room. Hundreds of students were busy with an exam on a computer, which possibly caused an overload.

No one was injured, reports a spokesperson for the Amsterdam-Amstelland fire brigade. All students are outside. The fire started around 3.30 pm.

The smoke probably came from under the floor. The exact source is still unknown. There were no flames and there was no need to extinguish.

The fire brigade will conduct thorough research in the examination room. The exam will not be resumed.
