Jan Smit will not return as a coach in

, it was announced on Sunday evening in RTL Boulevard.

It is not yet clear who will replace the singer.

"With a view to the coming year, my 25th anniversary year, I want to plan my agenda differently. More time for my own music and, above all, for myself," said Smit on Instagram.

"Ali, Anouk, Waylon, Chantal and Martijn thank you! I will enjoy the coming Friday evenings again in my trusted orange chair at FC Volendam."

Peter van der Vorst, director of RTL, says in a statement that he is sorry that Smith will leave the program.

"With his musical background, he was a very valuable addition to the team of coaches that was already there."

According to Van der Vorst, Smit is welcome to take a seat in the red swivel chairs again in the future.

There have been several occupancy changes in the program in the past.

Lil' Kleine became coach instead of Sanne Hans (Miss Montreal) and Waylon filled in for Anouk during her pregnancy.

Other former coaches are Roel van Velzen, Angela Groothuizen, Trijntje Oosterhuis and Nick & Simon.
