Pelosi wants to return to the Capitol tonight

President of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi wants to return to the Capitol on Wednesday evening.

Her son-in-law and America correspondent Michiel Vos has just said this on NPO Radio 1. Shortly afterwards an official statement from her office followed.

According to Vos, this does not necessarily mean that the session can be resumed, but it has a symbolic value.

"The return means they want to show that they are not going to be bullied, but I think they are going symbolically back to the Capitol to show that they are back."

Vos says his mother-in-law has now been housed in a safe location.

Pelosi had to be evacuated after Trump supporters managed to enter the Capitol.

It is not yet known whether the count of electoral votes in the Senate will resume Wednesday evening.

Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell previously argued for this.

Bush: "This happens in a banana republic"

Former president George WH Bush compares the storming to practices that take place in "a banana republic".

The Republican writes in a statement, "It is terrible and heartbreaking to watch. This is how election results are being contested in banana republics, not our democratic republic."

"I am shocked by the reckless behavior of some political leaders who have shown no respect for our institutions and traditions since the election. (...) These kinds of assaults are wreaking havoc on our nation and reputation."

Facebook and YouTube have removed a video of Donald Trump, in which he says again that the election has been fraudulent and that the storming is a logical consequence.

In the same video, he also calls on the stormers to go home.

Guy Rosen, Facebook vice president of integrity, says the video is actually contributing to the violence taking place at the parliament building.

Twitter banned all retweeting of the video because it could potentially provoke violence.

Trump has announced via Twitter that the storm is a logical consequence of what he sees as "election fraud".

"Our mega victory has been taken from these great patriots. People who have been treated badly and unjustly for a long time. Go home now and remember this day forever."

These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long.

Go home with love & in peace.

Remember this day forever!

This is not due to the actions of the police, but mainly because the Trump supporters leave of their own accord.

Juliette van Duijn asks:

What effect could this protest have on the further course of the transfer of power?

Is there a good chance that the votes in Georgia will be recounted again?

Apart from the chaos surrounding the Capitol, which obviously prevents MPs from resuming their work, the protest should have no further consequences for the electoral process.

Whether there will be a recount in Georgia has nothing to do with these events either.

Under the law in that state, they can be applied for by either candidate if the difference between them is 0.5 percentage points or less.

Local election officials can also request a recount if they have a concrete suspicion that mistakes have been made or fraud has taken place.

No, and it is recommended that you be very careful with these types of photos, which cannot be verified at this time.

In the past, fake news has been spread with great regularity at chaotic moments like this one.

At first glance, it does not seem very likely that recognizable antifa provocateurs will be able to move around safely in a crowd of protesters who see them as the nemesis.
