Jada Pinkett Smith had a short-lived relationship with singer August Alsina four years ago when she was temporarily no longer with her husband Will Smith. In her online talk show Red Table Talk , Pinkett Smith says that her spokesman's previous denial of the relationship did not come from herself.

Rumors of a potential affair recently started after Alsina claimed to have had a relationship with Pinkett Smith, which Will Smith would have consented to. A negative statement was issued in the name of Pinkett Smith that she wanted to adjust in her talk show.

"After all the stories in the press, I want to rectify it. The statement that came out on my behalf is not my statement," Pinkett Smith began her story as she sat at the table with her husband.

"About four years ago I started a friendship with August who was in need of help at the time. I wanted to help him with his health and mental state," explained Pinkett Smith.

She said this happened during a "difficult period" between her and her husband. Smith added that the two decided to separate so that Pinkett Smith could figure out how to make herself happy.

"The only one who had to give permission for this was myself"

Since the breakup between the couple didn't seem temporary, Pinkett Smith started a relationship with Alsina. She emphasizes that Smith's permission was not needed because they were out of relationship at the time. "The only person who had to give permission for this was myself," said Pinkett Smith.

The actress and presenter says she learned a lot from her time with Alsina, but it also made her realize that she could still see a future with Smith. Alsina cut off all contact with her when she decided to go back to her husband.

Smith and Pinkett Smith married in 1997. They have son Jaden (22) and daughter Willow (19) together. Smith had his son Trey from a previous marriage.
