Are you slowly losing sight of all the horizontal and vertical series on Netflix, Amazon, Sky and on free TV? Or are you just looking for good TV, maybe even want to do neat binge watching? In our series column we discuss the most interesting restarts of the month.

"Space force"

The canceled launch of Elon Musk's latest Space-X mission has once again proven it: rocket science - in contrast to sex, football or finance - is a rocket science. Space Force takes care of the comedic potential of this wisdom. With their first collaborative project since the US version of The Office, the authors Steve Carell and Greg Daniels plunge into a world of complicated formulas, scientific considerations and permanent occupational accidents. As expected, what happens here is very funny.

In addition to all sorts of swipes on Donald Trump (inventor of the real Space Force), Musk or Jeff Bezos (luminaries of the private space sector), Space Force also takes care of the individual fates of its personnel. General Frank Naird (Carell), contrary to his expectations, is not promoted to Air Force chief, but is assigned to Colorado to lead the newly formed space unit. Out of sheer boredom, his daughter Erin (Diana Silvers) has no choice but to take a part-time job at the Space Force snack bar Meal Armstrong. The scientist Dr. Adrian Mallory (John Malkovich) realizes that his idea of a peaceful and environmentally friendly populated universe could remain a utopia.

Space Force overcomes the weak point of many Trump parodies by not even trying to stay close to reality. The series explores dimensions of brain cracks into which even the current US government has not yet popped up - if only because at the last moment an adviser appeared who could take the president's cell phone away. The subplots in Space Force silly revolve around low-emission rocket fuel and artisanal space chimpanzees. Especially in the interaction between Carell and Malkovich, the humor of the show also reveals a gentle, unexpectedly playful side.

The ten episodes of "Space Force" will run on Netflix from May 29th.

"The Great"

Queens as far as the eye can see! The Crown or The Favorite - the view of the noble houses of the past and present obviously has an irresistible charm on screenwriters. For The Favorite , the bitterly evil decadence picture surrounding Queen Anne, there was not only an Oscar for the main actress Olivia Colman, but also a nomination for the screenplay by Tony McNamara. In his first series, The Great, he now takes on another ruler.

Where the opulent four-part series Catherine the Great presented Helen Mirren as power- and sex-hungry Russian Tsarina Katharina the Great last year, wearing it thickly and still giving the impression of historical correctness, McNamara makes no secret of it, just a " occasionally true story " to tell a true story only occasionally. His Katharina (Elle Fanning) is young, naive and fresh with the emperor Peter III, whom she later cleared out of the way. (Nicholas Hoult) married. But then she quickly learns about power and sex at court.

Similar to the Apple TV + series Dickinson , The Great ostentatiously combines historical figures and events with modern behavior and contemporary language. At least one fuck every five minutes must be. And as with The Favorite , McNamara succeeds - albeit not so darkly - in a wonderfully abysmal satire of politics and society with a sense of the absurd, in which Fanning and Hoult deliver rapid Frenemy dialogues and prove fantastic comedic timing.
