Ryan Gosling will star in the film adaptation of the forthcoming book Project Hail Mary . The 39-year-old actor will also act as a producer in the film.
MGM Studios and science fiction author Andy Weir have already agreed on the film rights of the forthcoming book, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This makes MGM the owner of Project Hail Mary 's film rights.
Project Hail Mary is about an astronaut on a spaceship destined to save the planet. Gosling also takes care of the production together with Ken Kao.
Weir was best known as the author of the book The Martian, which also included a film.
Gosling's last silver screen performance was also a biographical astronaut film, First Man.
The book Project Hail Mary will be published in the spring of 2021 by Random House. It is not yet known when the film will hit theaters.
