The Istanbul prosecutor's office has ordered the arrest of intellectual Osman Kavala, according to a report. It is about the coup attempt of July 15, 2016, reported the state news agency Anadolu, citing the authority. At first, no details were known.
Kavala and nine other defendants had only been acquitted in court a few hours earlier. They were accused of attempting to overthrow the government-critical Gezi protests in 2013. The prosecutor had asked for life imprisonment for him and two other suspects. The remaining six should go to prison for 15 to 20 years.
Kavala's release from the high-security prison Silivri west of Istanbul was actually expected on Tuesday evening.
