Colin Farrell is in conversation with Warner Bros about a role in the new Batman film. Deadline reports that the Irish actor is eligible to play the character Penguin.

Tuesday it was also announced that Andy Serkis, known for his role as Gollem in the Lord of the Rings series, was approached to play the role of butler Alfred Pennyworth in the new film by Matt Reeves.

Earlier it was announced that Robert Pattinson took on the leading role of Bruce Wayne / Batman. Farrell and Serkis would now be added to the cast which further consists of Zoë Kravitz (Selina Kyle / Catwoman), Paul Dano (the Riddler) and Jeffrey Wright (commissioner James Gordon).

The Penguin was previously played by Danny DeVito in Batman Returns from 1992. Burgess Meredith played the character in the 1960 television series. More recently, the Penguin was played by Robin Lord Taylor as the young Oswald Cobblepot in the Gotham series.

The script for the film is written by Reeves, who also takes control. Reeves is also known for Cloverfield and Planet of the Apes .

The recordings for the film start at the end of 2019. The provisional release date is set on 25 June 2021.
