De Jongh announced at the end of August that he would stop playing Dutch National Ballet after 24 years.

"I would like to be an independent dancer in the future years of my career," De Jongh said about her decision that she said that was accompanied by intense emotions.

In conversation with the NRC , the ballerina says that in the future she hopes to be allowed to work as a ballet master. "I think I have a lot to give." No agreements have yet been made on this.

The Frans Banninck Cocqpenning has been awarded since 1996 to individuals who have made themselves particularly deserving of Amsterdam for at least twelve years.

Other prominent figures who have received the award include Herman van Veen, André van Duin and Liesbeth List.
