There will be a new spin-off series from the film Grease . The series is called Grease: Rydell High and is a collaboration between HBO Max and Paramount, reports The Hollywood Reporter .
The series is named after high school that is central to the story of the musical film from 1978, in which John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John play the lead roles. The series will contain some characters from film and is also set in the fifties. A few songs from the original will also be heard again. It is not yet clear who will play the lead roles.
Production company Paramount already brought Grease to television in 2016 with Grease : Live , a one-time live registration of a musical with the same characters. Earlier this year it was announced that a prequel was also being worked on under the working title Summer Loving . That film must tell the story of the summer love between main characters Danny and Sandy.
It is not yet known when the prequel and the spin-off series will appear.
