Guillermo del Toro got its own star on Tuesday at the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. The Mexican director unfolded a flag of his homeland during the photo moment and in his speech he supported the many immigrants in the US.


Guillermo del Toro got its own star on Tuesday at the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. The Mexican director unfolded a flag of his homeland during the photo moment and in his speech he supported the many immigrants in the US.

"To get this star as a Mexican is a gesture that is hard to grasp," said Del Toro during the unveiling. "It is important right now because as an immigrant from any country you have to believe in opportunities and not in barriers. Do not believe in the lies they tell about us, believe in the stories you have in you."

The star of Guillermo del Toro, the 2669th star on the Walk of Fame, was unveiled by singer Lana Del Rey and fellow director JJ Abrams. Del Rey described Del Toro as "a man who is just as nice as deep, wise and pleasant". Abrams, director of Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens , among others, called Del Toro "a genius".

The 54-year-old Del Toro is known for the films Pan's Labyrinth , Hellboy and The Shape of Water . He received an Oscar for best director for the latter film.
