Russian scientists have found a way to significantly enhance terahertz radiation. They grew fibers from sapphire and applied them to the surface of the emitter of an antenna generating THz waves.

This greatly increased the radiation, which is used in a number of areas: for medical diagnostics, the study of archaeological artifacts, scanning passengers at airports, and also in communication systems. In the future, scientists plan to test the effectiveness of the device using high-power lasers, as well as optimize the shape of the antenna emitter.
