Self-service petrol pumps in New Zealand could no longer be used on Thursday. A software problem with a payment service provider that was related to leap day.

The outage lasted more than ten hours, according to a report in The New Zealand Herald newspaper. Filling stations where payments were possible via app or at the counter apparently did not have to stop operating. The cause is not yet fully understood, but the problem is expected to be fixed in the next few days, a company spokesman said.
