Finds from Thuringia: Modern people liked it cold. Despite the icy cold, Homo sapiens lived in northern Europe much earlier than previously thought.

This is proven by bone remains from a cave in Germany. The landscape back then probably looked like the steppes in what is now Siberia. Back then it was around 7 to 15 degrees colder than today. Until now, researchers had assumed that humans' resistance to cold conditions only emerged several thousand years later. In fact, they seem to have been able to do this much earlier, as Ranis' finds show.
