Scientists from MIPT have found a way to measure currents in heart tissue. Currents arise from the process of transporting charged atoms - ions - across cell membranes.

This process underlies cardiac tissue conduction; its failures can lead to cardiac arrhythmias and other diseases. The model developed by scientists takes into account a number of parameters that were previously difficult to assess. According to the authors of the work, the study will help in diagnosing cardiac diseases and assessing the safety of drugs.
