Legendary Soviet heavy machine gun DShK was adopted by the Red Army in 1939. It was created at the arms factory in Kovrov by Vasily Degtyarev and Georgy Shpagin to destroy enemy tanks and aircraft.

During the Great Patriotic War, it was used as the main armament of some types of armored vehicles and as an air defense weapon. A modernized version of the machine gun appeared in 1946, which is still in service in dozens of countries around the world.
