Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk only puts his name Virgil on his shirt. His uncle, Stephen Fu Siu, said Van Dijk chose to do so, due to a long-running dispute with his father, when he was 12 years old.

Stephen said that his father left his family while the future footballer was still a child, and their relationship became strained. He concluded, "Ron (Van Dijk) is a nice guy, but you have to be more than that to be a good father"
