It is no good having a great cheer squad if they never have anything to celebrate

Before a football had been kicked in anger there were people declaring that Super Bowl LV was already a done deal, because Patrick Mahomes had signed a massive deal that would keep him in Kansas and facilitate the next great NFL dynasty.

That all may come true, especially considering the start that the Chiefs have made to the new regular season, but what is less talked about is which teams are already stinking the league out, with performances so dire that they own fans are forced to hold their noses.

Here are some of the teams who already look like being the dross of the 2020/21 season.

New York Jets – Forced to Crash Land on a Weekly Basis

Although the season is still young it is safe to say that the New York Jets are the worst team in the league by a country mile.

Rumors abound that head coach Adam Gase will get the sack, but at the time of writing he remains hellbent on turning this franchise into a laughingstock; one that remains rooted to the foot of Super Bowl futures odds lines. Their problems start in defense, where they desperately miss Jamal Adams who wisely jumped ship to Seattle.

On offense there is some light at the end of the tunnel, but barely enough to give the few remaining Jets fans any hope.

The closest these teams will ever come to getting their mitts on the Vince Lombardi trophy is by getting a cleaning job at Arrowhead Stadium

New York Giants – Saquon Barkley Injury is the Beginning of the End

It is not a good time to be a football fan in the Big Apple, with the New York Giants looking every bit as tame as their green and white counterparts this season.

After managing to mess up the draft in dramatic fashion the organization pinned all its hopes on the admittedly promising running back Saquon Barkley, but then he suffered a season-ending injury in week 2. What happens next will not be pretty for followers of the Giants.

Cincinnati Bengals – Joe Burrow Does Not Make a Team

Of course, enduring a weekly whipping over the course of an entire season at least does earn you a number 1 draft pick, and Bengals fans rejoiced when Joe Burrow was brought to Cinci.

Unfortunately, someone forget to tell the Bengals that as good as the rookie is, he might appreciate a little pass protection. No doubt that Burrow is watching on enviously as Patrick Mahomes gets all day to set up his passes over in Kansas.

Burrow has at least made the Bengals competitive, but it hard to see them stringing together a meaningful number of regular season wins.

Detroit Lions – Wasting Talent Like It Is Going Out of Fashion

If the Lions are known for one thing, it is wasting some of the best talent in the league; taking MVP standard players and reducing them to mere also-rans. They did it with Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson back in the day and now they seem intent on doing the same to Matthew Stafford.

It may seem a little harsh on the Lions to include them in a list of the worst teams in the league, but how long can you go without actually achieving anything?

Minnesota Vikings – Viking Ship Sinks Without Trace

The only people that will make the Lions look good in the NFC North this season are the Vikings, who have been regularly giving up 30+ points.

Theirs is a story of another dreadful draft, with a rash of their defensive line signing with other teams and Michael Pierce opting out of playing altogether. Perhaps it is no surprise that they are leaking points badly, and that leak could well sink them entirely if things don’t turn around soon.
