Swimming competition to select representatives for the Paris Olympics began on the 17th. In the women's 100m butterfly qualifying round, Rikako Ikee advanced to the semi-finals.

This year's competition is a "one-shot contest" in which participants who can beat the time set by the Japan Swimming Federation in the final will be selected to represent the individual event. The tournament will be held for eight days, ending on the 24th of this month, and NHK will be broadcasting the semis and finals live.
