The German national ice hockey players won their first "final" at the World Cup and had the chance to reach the quarter-finals and participate in the Olympics. The team of national coach Harold Kreis defeated Denmark 6:4 with an early deficit and ended its series of defeats in Tampere.

On the sidelines of the game, the DEB announced that NHL goaltender Philipp Grubauer will not travel after his play-off exit. The vacant place was taken on Thursday by Munich debutant Filip Varejcka.
