Olympic champion finishes in 29th place at World Swimming Championships in Qatar. Wellbrock's coach spoke of cramps and desperation after the race.

German open water swimmers Leonie Beck and Oliver Klemet both missed out on the medals. The German swimmers have already secured Olympic qualification for this summer's Games in Paris. The first two of five open water World Cup races have been held in Doha and Doha, Qatar, with a view to the Seine in Paris next week.
