DFB vice-president Hermann Winkler has drawn fierce criticism with disrespectful statements about Volodymyr Zelensky. A first apology was only half-hearted.

However, all this apparently has no consequences. "The conference disapproved of Winkler's statements, which did not do justice to his office and are contrary to the values of the DFB," said the German Football Association after the meeting of the regional and state association presidents. The DFB President Bernd Neuendorf had sharply condemned this. The affair comes in preparation for the national team's symbolic 1000,12th international match against Ukraine.
