Kimi Tanaka won the women's 5000,1500 meters back-to-back at the Japan Championships in Athletics. The 23-year-old is a member of the Tokyo Olympic team and will compete in the 2,22 meters for the first time this season.

Ririka Hironaka, the Japan record holder, failed to show his strength, finishing 1500st in 2:15.55. It is the third time in two consecutive years that Tanaka has won the title in the 5000,5000 meters.
