Russian yachtsman Vitaly Elagin, who disappeared in the Pacific Ocean, made contact near Cape Horn. The navigator went on a solo trip around the world in early October 2023, but in mid-March he was caught in a storm and damaged the sails.
After this, communication with him was lost, although the captain did not give an SOS signal. For about a week, rescuers tried to find Elagin in the Cape Horn area. But a few months later, in March 2024, off the coast of Chile, the Russian emerged with a torn sail.
