Russian wrestlers won 14 medals at the European Championships in Bucharest. Despite the absence of a number of leaders due to problems with visas, the national team took third place in the total number of awards and fourth in gold.

The freestyle wrestlers Abasgadzhi Magomedov and Akhmed Usmanov, as well as the representative of the Greco-Roman style Sergei Semyonov, rose to the highest step of the podium. Magomed Martazaliev, Anvara Allahyarov and Gadzhimurad Rashidov became winners of the continental championship in new weight categories.
