The Iraqi national team won an exciting 1-1 draw with its Omani counterpart during the match that brought them together today, Tuesday, at the World Cup Stadium, in the first round of the first group matches in the Arab Football Cup in Qatar.
The Omani team advanced after 78 minutes through Saleh Al Yahyai, and seemed on his way to grab the three points with the match reaching the fifth minute of overtime.

But referee Saeed Martinez from Honduras referred to the penalty mark after reviewing the video for touching a hand against defender Amjad Al Harthy.
At the exciting end of the match, Omani goalkeeper Ahmed Al-Rawahi saved the substitute Ayman Hussein's shot from the penalty mark, before the referee ordered the penalty kick to be retaken due to the goalkeeper's advance from the goal line before the violation was committed.
Hassan Abdul Karim took the penalty in the second attempt, and sent the Omani goalkeeper in the wrong direction, equalizing the result to Iraq, who was playing his first match under the leadership of coach Zeljko Petrovic after his separation from the veteran Dutchman Dick Advocaat earlier this month.
The match witnessed the expulsion of Yasser Qassem, the Iraqi national team player, in the 67th minute.
