After Flushing Meadows in 2018 and the Australian Open in 2019,

Naomi Osaka

won her

third Grand Slam title

in the US Open bubble on

Saturday September 12

.

It was not an easy match for the Japanese player who will regain third place in the WTA (Women's Tennis Association) ranking on Monday, September 14.

She had to pull up a set behind to win over her Belarusian rival.

Azarenka and Osaka should have already

met in the Cincinnati final

, just before the start of the US Open.

But Naomi Osaka

withdrew

due to a left thigh injury.

Champion and activist

At the Cincinnati tournament, Naomi Osaka had already been talked about off the courts.

The Haitian-born athlete, a real star on his father's island, had decided not to play his semi-final.

She was protesting the police shooting at African-American Jacob Blake.

The organizers had been forced to cancel an entire day of the tournament.

She also wore this commitment to the Black Lives Matter movement at the US Open… right down to her face.

She had prepared seven black masks, one per game until the final, each bearing the name of a victim of police violence in the United States.

Her double hat of champion and activist may not see the Roland Garros courts this year.

Embarrassed in the thigh, Naomi Osaka will take time to think.
