It is one of the most important tourist destinations in the Balearic Islands.
Located in the municipality of Calviá, 18 km from Palma de Mallorca, every summer thousands of visitors flock to Magaluf, attracted by its beaches and coves with turquoise waters and, also, by the lively nightlife offered by the enormous number of bars, nightclubs and leisure establishments that are concentrated around the promenade.
Internationally famous, on many occasions for unwanted reasons (being the epicenter of drunken tourism and excesses of young people), there are many options to enjoy the Majorcan town and its surroundings with the family and away from the hustle and bustle of nightclubs and
after
parties .
Here are five reasons to visit Magaluf this summer.
1. Festivals
The Majorcan town will have a multitude of cultural activities and concerts this summer.
The old Calviá Aquapark, in Palmanova (neighbouring Magaluf), will host twenty concerts by established artists throughout the summer, including the
Mallorca Live Summer
cycle , with guests such as Sebastián Yatra, Coque Malla, Bunury, Crystal Fighters, Dani Martín or Fangoria, and
three Sonar Mallorca mini-festivals
.
2. beaches and coves
Magaluf
beach
is an extensive sandbank of almost 1 km bathed by incredible turquoise and calm shallow waters.
It has all the services and it is possible to practice water sports such as jet skis, kitesurfing, water skiing, kayaking... In the center of the bay lies the
Sa Porrassa
islet , a natural reserve ideal for diving.
On the outskirts of the town there are postcard coves, such as
Cala Falcó
, a small sandy beach surrounded by pine forests and rocky areas, or
Cala Vinyes
beach .
The neighboring beaches of
Son Matías
and
Palmanova
are two other nice options that can be reached on foot, as they are about a 20-minute walk from the center of Magaluf.
3. Hiking
Galatzo farm.
About 18 km north of Magaluf, within the Sierra de Tramontana, is the
Galatzó
, one of the largest public estates in the Balearic Islands, which is accessed from the pretty village of Es Capdellà.
The space, with a rich archaeological and natural heritage, where the oak forests, pine forests and garrigues stand out, is ideal for doing all kinds of activities in nature and is also a benchmark for lovers of hiking in Mallorca. .
It has four marked itineraries of different difficulties, which run between 7 and 15 km each, and in which you can see a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Two of them are also suitable for children.

Strolling through the
Hippy Market
in Plaza Jacques Sasson in Magaluf is a must if you want to enjoy a sustainable hippy-themed market, the only one on the island, with local crafts, km 0 products and children's entertainment.
Until mid-October, from Thursday to Sunday (from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), the venue is open to purchase traditional Majorcan pieces, gastronomy and carry out various activities.
And to do something different with the little ones, the Western Park
water parks
, with one of the highest water slides in the world, and the
Katmandú Park
, in Magaluf, offer a whole world of fun around water.
5. Patron saint festivities
To end the summer, the municipality of Calviá celebrates
the Fiestas del Rey Jaime
, which take place in Santa Ponsa (10 km west of Magaluf).
A highly recommended plan to live a historical recreation of the landing of King Jaime I the Conqueror in Mallorca (in 1229) and the battles between Christians and Muslims.
It is the most representative cultural and festive event in the municipality of Calvià.
