SpaceX confirmed this Sunday that it is working on a project called "Lunar Mission DOGE-1" that the company Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC) will pay in Dogecoins.
The company specializing in renewable energies and space exploration was the first to announce the project.

Falcon 9 "will demonstrate the possibility of virtual currency applications beyond Earth orbit and serve as a foundation for interplanetary trade," said Tom Ochinero, SpaceX vice president in charge of sales.
As part of this mission, the Falcon 9 rocket of the company founded by Elon Musk will transport the goods entrusted to it by GEC.
Collect data on the Moon
It is a cube-shaped satellite weighing 40 kg.
The craft was designed to "collect spatial data concerning the Moon using sensors and on-board cameras, with integrated computer communication systems".
Elon Musk had actually mentioned the existence of Project DOGE-1 before, but his intervention was seen by many as a joke.

The whimsical billionaire had thus referred to the mission in a tweet published on April 1.
“SpaceX will actually put a Dogecoin on the real Moon,” he wrote on the social network.
The cost of the satellite and sending it close to the Moon has not been released.
