Schick misses the Czech Republic in the World Cup play-off against Sweden

The Czech national team received a strong blow in the absence of its top scorer and striker, Bayer Leverkusen, Patrick Schick, from the match against Sweden in the qualifying playoff for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the team coach announced on Monday.

Schick suffers from a calf injury he suffered in late February.

"It's a great loss," said Czech coach Jaroslav Shilhavy. "He returned to individual training a week ago and joined group training only now."

It is noteworthy that the winner of the Czech-Sweden match scheduled for next Thursday will meet Poland on the 29th of this month to find out the identity of the two qualifiers for the finals scheduled in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.

Chilhavy indicated that Schek could join the match against Poland, which qualified for the final of the second track after Russia was eliminated for its invasion of Ukraine.

Schick scored the same number of goals and 5 in the European Cup finals last summer, including a goal and the most amazing from the middle of the field against Scotland in the group stage, with Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, but the latter was crowned the official top scorer for the tournament for his decisive pass.

Schick is the second highest scorer in Germany with 20 goals behind Polish leader Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich striker, who has 31.
