Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, President of the Football Association, praised, during his presence at the headquarters of the Football Association in Dubai, yesterday, the signing ceremony of the agreement to host the tenth West Asian Championship, which will be held for the first time in the UAE from March 20 to April 2, 2023, stressing that the state is keen To host such major sporting events, as it possesses the infrastructure that qualifies it to provide distinguished hosting, in support of these important continental tournaments.
In a press statement after signing the agreement, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi said: "We strive with the brothers in the West Asian Federation to raise these championships, in an effort to advance their levels, enhance cooperation and exchange experiences, to benefit everyone."
The agreement to host the tournament was signed by: the Secretary-General of the Football Association, Muhammad bin Hazam Al-Dhaheri, and the Secretary-General of the West Asian Football Association, Khalil Al-Salem, in the presence of the Vice-President of the West Asian Federation Hussein Saeed, and a number of members of the Board of Directors of the Football Association.
Regarding the UAE’s request to host the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup after Japan apologized for hosting it, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi confirmed that there are talks and coordination between the Football Association, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and the International Football Association regarding hosting, but so far no final decision has been issued in this matter. He stressed the UAE's keenness to host major tournaments, to reflect the progress of Emirati football and highlight the distinguished organization of Emirati cadres for such tournaments.
And regarding the national team’s preparations for its upcoming matches against Iran and Iraq on October 7 and 12, respectively, in the third and fourth rounds of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid said: “The responsibility is great, and we have to take advantage of all energies, to achieve the desired goal, which is to ascend.” To the World Cup, and we have great confidence in the players that they will do their utmost to achieve the aspirations of the fans, and win the next two matches to help the team collect more points to compete to qualify for the World Cup.”
Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid confirmed the UAE’s support for the establishment of the Arab Gulf Cup “Gulf 25” in Iraq, after the Gulf Football Association unanimously decided to postpone the tournament to January 2023 due to the crowded international and continental calendar, and said: “We seek in cooperation and coordination with the Gulf federations to lift the ban on All Iraqi football stadiums, by communicating with officials in the International Federation, to take decisions that delight the Iraqi sports family.”
For his part, Hussain Saeed, Vice-President of the West Asian Federation, expressed their happiness at the country's hosting of the tenth edition of the West Asian Championship, stressing his confidence that the UAE's hosting of the tournament will be at the highest level, given the great experience that Emirati cadres have in organizing major sporting events.
"We support the holding of the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup in Iraq, after it was postponed to January 2023."

March 20, 2023 is the date of the 10th West Asian Championship, which will be held for the first time in the UAE.
