• Paula Badosa The rebirth of a toy that seemed broken

Tennis player

Paula Badosa

, considered the great promise of Spanish women's tennis, will face off this Wednesday in a court of first instance in Barcelona with her former representative after breaking the agreement with him.

The athlete, who has just won the number one in the world, the Australian

Ashleigh Barty

in the Volvo Car tournament in Charleston, consummating the greatest triumph of her career at just 23 years old, broke with her former agent,

Enric Molina

, with whom she signed a representation agreement in 2018 whereby the latter reserved 20% of all its advertising agreements.

When the agreement was terminated, it included a penalty clause whereby Molina reserved 10% of its contracts for a period of five years.

The tennis player, who currently occupies the

62nd

position in

the world rankings

, has refused to pay her former agent the amount he claims, which adds the athlete to practically bankruptcy. Since, as Badosa wields in the judicial procedure, urged by his former agent for non-payment, Molina has not managed to get him a single advertising agreement in recent years.

This newspaper has contacted Molina, who has flatly denied Badosa's version and maintains that he has obtained advertising agreements, but to questions from EL MUNDO he does not want to specify which ones. In this sense, he asks to wait until the trial is over to rule on this matter. For its part, the Badosa environment did not want to make any kind of assessment before the court date.

Badosa, who was

already proclaimed junior champion at Roland Garros in 2015

, has become the fifth Spanish tennis player to defeat a world number one. They already did it before her, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Conchita Martínez, Garbiñe Muguruza and Vivi Ruano.

The family of another great promise of Spanish women's tennis,

Demi Ebidson

, who had to leave tennis a few years ago after a practically identical conflict with Molina,

has been made available to Badosa to testify at the trial

.

In this case, Ebidson had to leave tennis because his parents could not cope with the financial demands imposed by Molina, who are still paying through a loan.
