Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen has reacted to the weak start to the season and parted ways with coach Gerardo Seoane (43).
This was announced by the Rhinelanders, who could only celebrate one win in the first eight matchdays, the day after the 2-0 defeat at FC Porto in the Champions League.
He will be succeeded by Xabi Alonso, who will receive a contract until mid-2024.
The Swiss Seoane led the Werkself into the Champions League straight away last season.
In his second season in charge, not much went together, Leverkusen only won two of twelve competitive games.
Bayer lost in the first round of the DFB Cup at third-division club SV Elversberg, in the Bundesliga the long-term starter found themselves in the bottom of the table in the European Cup, and in the premier class the team lost two of their first three group games.
It's the third change of coach this season.
Previously, DFB Cup winner RB Leipzig had released Domenico Tedesco, at VfL Bochum promotion coach Thomas Reis had to go after the worst start in the club's history.
