The sacked coach of the unit, Portuguese Carlos Carvalhal, became the first victim of the ADNOC Professional League, after the club’s management issued, yesterday, an official statement announcing the termination of the coach’s contract after the negative results he achieved in the competition, 24 hours after the controversy surrounding the dismissal of services Carvalhal.

And the Portuguese newspaper, “Ogogo”, indicated, a day before the official decision was issued, that “the management of the unit sacked Carvalhal, despite his association with a two-year contract, and that the next coach will be the Spaniard Jimenez, who previously worked with Annabi for the 2019-2020 season.”

The management of the unit did not respond to these news until yesterday evening by announcing the dismissal decision, thanking the coach for the time he spent in the club.

The statement did not address the coach who will succeed Carvalhal, although media reports have confirmed that the Spaniard Jimenez will lead Annabi training today in preparation for the victory meeting in the fifth round of the ADNOC Professional League, at a time when it was mentioned that the former coach of the unit, Issa Gregory, appears in the photo as a candidate to take over the technical reins of the unit. .

Coach Carvalhal was surprised by the news of his dismissal despite his joy at his team's first victory over Al-Bataeh by a clean four, especially since the questions asked to him in the press conference and in television interviews were limited to his comment on the club's decision to dismiss him from his position, and his answer was in agreement with all the media that he did not know anything about it. .

Carvalhal said: “Until that moment, I am still a coach for Al-Wahda, and I do not know what the future is. All I plan now is that we will prepare in the next few hours for our match against Al-Nassr in the fifth round. What I can say in this regard is that there is a professional work that links me to Al-Wahda Club, and the relationship Between me and the club officials are based on mutual respect.”

He added: “If you ask me about sacking coaches after only four rounds of the league, I will say that this would be a wrong decision. The league is still long and there are many rounds in which a lot can happen. In the Al-Bataeh match, he was able to come out with a very perfect show and result.”

Al Wahda had signed the 56-year-old Portuguese coach on June 1 with a two-year contract, succeeding French Gregory, who led "Al Annabi" to the President's Cup final, and got him third on the league table.

Carvalhal trained several Portuguese clubs, most notably Sporting Lisbon and Braga, with whom he won the Portuguese Cup. He also coached Swansea City in the English Premier League, and Besiktas and Basaksehir in Turkey.

He was a candidate to lead the English Blackburn Rovers next season before he decided to lead the unit.

The Portuguese coach played with Al Wahda only four matches in the league, drawing with Al Wasl 2-2 and losing from Ittihad Kalba with a goal without a reply, and from Shabab Al-Ahly 1-2, and beat Al-Bataeh 4-0, scoring seven goals, and his team scored five goals.

Al-Wahda jumped to ninth place with five points at the end of the fourth round, behind Al-Nasr, who ranked eighth.

Carvalhal:

“If you ask me about sacking coaches after only four rounds of the league;

I would say that would be a wrong decision.”
