Find out about the results of the UAE women in the Arab Cycling Championship

Young women and men of the national cycling team won two silver medals in the road against time competitions within the Arab Championship, which started in Egypt today, Sunday, with the participation of more than 400 cyclists representing 17 Arab countries, in an achievement that was absent from the women’s team for 16 years after its last coronation in the year of the championship. Which was hosted by Bahrain in 2005.

The current Arab championship is considered the largest in the history of Arab championships, as it witnesses for the first time five competitions: road, track, mountain bikes, people with disabilities and BMX. The UAE team, the women’s and young women’s category, succeeded in achieving two historic medals for the UAE in the road competitions against time teams.

The women's team, which includes Safia Al Sayegh, Sheikha Issa, Fatima Hadid and Zahra Hussein, succeeded in snatching the silver medal, surpassing Egypt and Morocco, while the Kuwait team won the gold medal.

As for the young women’s team, it includes Ranad Al Yafei, Hoda Hussein, Muzna Al Marzouki, and Marwa Khour, and they succeeded in winning the silver medal behind the Algerian team, which is the first Arab medal for the UAE in the category of young women in the Arab championships.

For his part, the technical director of the national team, Abdullah Sweidan, told "Emirates Today": "What happened is a historic achievement for the UAE bikes, as it is the first women's medal for the team for more than 16 years, specifically since the Arab Championship in Bahrain in 2005," noting that "The national team succeeded in defeating the defending champion, the Egyptian team, which came in third, as well as the Moroccan team, which has previous Arab achievements, while the Kuwait team succeeded in snatching the gold medal in a big surprise for the Kuwaiti women."

Regarding the young women’s team, Suwaidan said: “The medal will be a great incentive for girls in the future,” noting that “despite the participation of only two teams in this category, this indicates the broadening of the national team base and will be a motive for UAE girls to continue training and development for the sake of Upcoming tournaments.
