The 29-year-old Inter Milan attacking midfielder, winner of the Italian league, suddenly collapsed on the pitch just before the break, his eyes wide.

The match was stopped and his partners gathered to form a circle around him, some of them in tears.

After long minutes when a medical team was busy around Christian Eriksen to give him a cardiac massage, he was finally evacuated from the field by the rescuers, hidden behind a sheet, to the applause of the Danish public.

The match will not resume.

"The Euro match in Copenhagen has been suspended due to a medical emergency," UEFA wrote on the tournament's Twitter account.

These images sadly recall the discomfort of Cameroonian Marc-Vivien Foe, victim of a heart attack at the age of 28 in June 2003, in Lyon, in the middle of the Confederations Cup match.

More details to come.
